How to: Sleep Better

So on Tuesday and Wednesday I enjoyed a blissful, non-rabbit food lifestyle, but my sleep was anything but. (Blissful OR non-rabbit-like, that is. Rabbits are active in the early morning, as was I.)

I don't know if this is related to food or stress, but when I was eating mostly raw, I slept better than I have at any other time in California. (Last summer I routinely woke up at 4 and could not fall back asleep, even though I was exhausted.)

Therefore, when I woke up on Thursday I decided to try going mostly raw, with a couple of new rules:
1-Screw this caffeine-free nonsense. (Whoever knows me can take this time to giggle at what a euphemism "nonsense" is.)

That's really the only rule. Except I was still not ready for the cashew milk, so instead I had:

This bowl of cherries (and two more like it), an apple, and a peach (not pictured.)

My body LOVED it after a night of margaritas and burritos!

LUNCH:

If the look of this bowl of pepper-cucumber-celery-avocado DELICIOUSNESS does not convert you to a raw foodist, let me know and I will cross off a nutritional missionary career off my list.
Oh, plus about four oranges and some other rando produce that got lost in my memory just as fast as in my stomach.

2 PM and all I've eaten are fruits and veggies! (and coffee and black pepper and balsamic vinegar, but if you're going to be a stickler, let's hear about YOUR diet.)

20 minutes later: I think about going for a run, crawl into bed, and pass out for about a half hour. I NEVER get food coma when I am eating cooked food, but I cannot stay awake AND digest raw goodness at the same time. Well, I know I was sleep deprived from the night before, so nap = mission accomplished!

Mission NOT accomplished: the random chocolate bar I ate even though I told myself I would stay raw until dinner. Oh well. Dinner was delicious Burmese food, spicy and warm.

FRIDAY FOOD LOG:

B-rawwwwk-fast:

Sadly, the cashew milk isn't going to drink itself, so here we go again. Maybe it's the granola that makes it look so sad. The last gRAWnola I had was clustery and sweet. This is just seedey and almondy, all business and no party.

The bowl of RAWspberries kind of helped:

I am totally going to quit my day job and go into professional food photography.

Lunch: Leftover burrito. Cooked fabulousness. Plus a thousand apples, peaches, and pears.

Snack: Superfood Oodwalla. Not raw (flash pasteurized) but close enough.

Dinner: bowl with avocado, banana, and green pea mush (not pictured), more green peas with sunflower seeds, 1 or 2 raw granola bars, large beer, large orange.

And I still did not sleep well!
I woke up at 4 starving, ate another orange, some almond butter, strawberries, and an apple.
But eventually I got back to sleep and slept pretty well.

No conclusions for now. It's Saturday and I want to enjoy the sunshine. Watch out for a RAWcipe (that's raw bread recipe for SEO loveliness) coming up tonight or tomorrow!
